Within a single lifetime, we’ve progressed from the first space rocket launch to using space technologies in our everyday lives. Now, we are ready to start a new chapter in the history of human endeavor: to take our first steps towards a permanent, off-world presence.
Kari Byron from Crash Test World and MythBusters launches us on a journey beyond the Earth toward a sustainable future in space. NASA’s 21st-century Artemis program, named after the ancient Greek moon goddess and twin of Apollo, is the next step in our mission to explore the universe and land the first woman and person of color on the surface of the Moon.
A $2 donation is suggested for all planetarium shows.
Produced by Fiske Planetarium in collaboration with TEND Studio with funding from NASA SSERVI and Lockheed Martin.
Join us in the Planetarium for a public talk titled The Moon in Native and Colonial Mexican Culture, presented by Dr. Amílcar Challú, Chair and Associate Professor, BGSU Department of History.
Join us for a journey to find the reflections of the Moon on Mexican identity, beliefs, and creativity. In this talk we will explore the celestial deities of the Mexica, the indigenous and Catholic symbolisms in the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and sophisticated astronomical knowledge behind the poetry of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
This program is one of six sessions hosted by the BGSU Planetarium on a wide range of interdisciplinary topics, each with a connection to astronomy. Programs in the series will be every Thursday evening starting March 13 and running through April 17. “The Moon Speakers Series” events are free and open to the public.
This talk will also be available to livestream via zoom at https://bgsu-edu.zoom.us/j/4287586258

2025 New Student Housing Giveaway!
25 lucky winners will get to pick a room in the residence hall of their choice before room selection officially begins, for themself AND a roommate of their choice! That's up to 50 winners – and the earlier you sign your housing agreement, the more chances you have to win!
________________________
How to Enter
Sign the 2025-26 Housing and Dining Agreement between Jan. 6 through April 30, 2025.
You must be a new student admitted to BGSU for the Fall 2025 Semester to qualify.
The month you sign your Housing and Dining Agreement determines how many entries you have into the contest. Each month five winners will be selected.
Jan. 6-31 = 4 total entries
Feb. 1-28 = 3 total entries
March 1-31 = 2 total entries
April 1-30 = 1 total entry
This year, an additional 5 students who sign their Housing and Dining Agreement on Jan. 6 will be selected to pick their room before selection!
Complete your Housing Agreement TODAY!
If you win, you can pick a bed in Centennial Hall, Conklin Hall, Kohl Hall, McDonald Hall, Kreischer or Offenhauer Towers – for yourself and one new BGSU student of your choice.
New students who wish to live in Founders Hall must be members of the Honors Learning Community. Because of this, Founders Hall will not be available to select through this giveaway.
The randomized drawing will occur by the third day of each month up until May 3. The Office of Student Housing will reach out to each winner through BGSU email and the phone number on file - make sure you have your voicemail box set up! If a winner doesn't respond within 24 hours, their right to the prize will be forfeited, and a new winner will be selected.
Upon accepting the prize by picking a room before standard room selection, winners agree to participate in social media and other marketing efforts to promote the giveaway.
When contacted, the Office of Student Housing will discuss with each winner how to select a room for themself and their chosen roommate.
________________________
Important Details:
Students are not required to have their $200 initial housing payment made to be eligible to win. However, before any student can be assigned to a room, the initial housing payment must be paid.
The additional student who is pulled into the room by a winner must have their housing and meal plan agreement signed and paid their $200 initial payment at the time of the room selection. They must also be a new incoming student admitted at BGSU to qualify.
This prize does not offer any discount on the housing rate, and each student assigned to a room through this giveaway will be responsible for the full payment of the room in accordance with their student bill. Cancellations to the agreement by May 1, 2025, will receive a 100% refund and will not be billed. Cancellations after May 1, 2025, will be granted in accordance with the forfeiture schedule.
If the winner does not submit an eligible student to be their roommate by the Office of Student Housing deadline, the remaining space will be forfeited.
Once a student has won one of the 20 prizes, they will no longer be eligible to win the remaining prizes for this giveaway. Students who have agreed to be the roommate of one of the winners will also not be eligible.
The beds selected by the winner and their roommate must be assigned to the same building. Any student who is assigned to a room through this giveaway does not have the right to their room assignment. If one of the students decides to do a room change into a different room/building or cancels their contract, the vacant bed will open up to standard room selection, and a random roommate may be assigned.
Returning students who will be enrolled full-time at BGSU are not eligible to win.
The Office of Student Housing is not responsible for prize notifications being marked as spam, junk or otherwise hidden from the recipient.

Are you interested in stargazing and looking at celestial objects through telescopes? Come check out the Department of Physics & Astronomy rooftop observatory during public stargazing sessions. The rooftop observatory includes a 0.5-meter research grade telescope as well as smaller “amateur astronomer” telescopes, which you will be able to look through. You will also learn how to find major constellations and any planets currently visible.
Stargazes take place on the roof of the Physical Sciences Laboratory Building. The roof can be accessed by taking the elevator to the roof (press the “R” button in the elevator). Signs in the hallway will help direct you to the elevator. Do not use the stairs to go to the roof. The “R” button on the elevator will be unlocked at the start time of the stargaze session. If you arrive before it is unlocked, please wait on the first floor for the session to begin. It is recommended that you dress warmly. The roof is usually colder and windier than the ground.
While on the roof for a stargaze, please refrain from talking on your cell phone so that you do not interrupt others or stop them from hearing what is being discussed. The use of phones for flash free pictures or astronomy apps is allowed. Please do not use the light on your phone though since dark adaptation is important for viewing the nighttime sky.
Astronomical objects can only be seen when the sky is totally or mostly clear, therefore stargaze cannot be held unless the weather is clear. If it is snowing, raining, foggy, cloudy, or even partly cloudy there will be no stargaze session that night. If you aren’t sure if the conditions will permit a stargaze session, you can call (419) 372-8831 for a recorded message telling whether the sessions will be held or canceled that night. The message is set one hour before the scheduled start of the session. If you call earlier than one hour before the start time you may receive an incorrect message.
When you arrive at the roof and exit the elevator, you will be greeted by one of the stargaze personnel and directed to the various stations you can visit. If you are attending the stargaze for a general visit (rather than as part of an astronomy course), please let the greeter know.
In addition to the listed stargazing sessions, weather permitting, there may also be an opportunity for stargazing following evening Planetarium shows.
Happy Stargazing!
