Exhibit - The Monster, Transformed: The Many Faces of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in the 20th Century

The Browne Popular Culture Library presents its new exhibit The Monster, Transformed: The Many Faces of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in the 20th Century. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus was first published in 1918, and in the 200 years since has become an important cultural touchstone. The Browne Popular Culture Library’s exhibit, on display until November 4, looks at many ways in which Shelley’s text and its famous monster were reinterpreted beginning in the 20th century. The display includes posters, books, toys, comics, and more based on the story of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster.

Active Learning Classroom Workshop Certification

The Center for Faculty Excellence is offering Active Learning Classroom (ALC) Workshops to interested faculty. After faculty complete this 2 part series, they will receive ALC Certification as well as priority for choosing active classrooms the following semester. Part 1 will focus on active learning strategies and discuss how those strategies can be put to use in their classes. Part 2 will show faculty how to use the ALC technology in the classrooms. Please note that the ALC Strategies Part 1 is a prerequisite to ALC Technologies Part 2. This organization exists to increazse awareness of relationship violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sexual harassment, and how to prevent it.  Formed in 2014, the group assists with and coordinates events such as The Clothesline Project, a Sexual Assault Awareness 5K and Dog Walk, and numerous other outreach activities and partnerships with campus organizations and community members. Meeting are open to the campus community. His work has been on display at the Paramount Theater in Seattle, the University of Illinois at Chicago, The Trickster Art Gallery, and multiple times at The Harold Washington Library in Chicago.   The Native American Heritage Month Kickoff is a free event on November 1, 2018, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, in the Multipurpose Room of the Bowen-Thompson Student Center (228 BTSU). Adam Sings in the Timber is a documentary photographer and filmmaker. Adam believes that documenting Native American life is the main purpose of his life as a photojournalist. He wants to capture all the nuances of Native Americans and to present them to the non-Native world as well as preserve them for future generations of Native American. Winter Wheat Writing Fest

Winter Wheat is a  festival of creative writing workshops, readings, book fair, and open mic. The opening event is a reading by F. Daniel Rzicznek, author of Settlers, a collection of poetry (Free Verse Editions/Parlor Press, 2018). His recent poetry has appeared in West Branch, Colorado Review, Willow Springs, Adroit Journal, The Collagist, and elsewhere. He teaches at BGSU, where he also serves as director of the creative writing program. The festival continues Friday and Saturday; most of those events are at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
