Marie Severin: Pencil, Ink and Color

The comics career of Will Eisner Hall of Fame artist Marie Severin (1929-2018) spanned six decades and included stints at two of the medium’s most renowned houses- EC Comics and Marvel. Known primarily as a colorist, Severin used the limited color palate of comics in new and inventive ways, bringing to life the drawings of some of the biggest artists in comics. As her career progressed, Severin was given more opportunities, eventually drawing characters like Doctor Strange, the Hulk, and Thor. But as one of the only women working in mainstream comic art, she felt constrained by sexism in the industry and eventually struck out on her own. To mark Women’s History Month, the Browne Popular Culture Library is displaying some of Severin’s most prominent early work, showcasing her distinctive style. The exhibit also offers a chance to see original Severin watercolors created as color references for a 1971 issue of The Mighty Thor, which have not been shown in public since the mid-1970s. The display is open to the public and will be on view through March 31st.

Sibs n' Kids Weekend

Recreation and Wellness invites all sibs and kids to head over to the Rec for some open recreation. All weekend long, when accompanied by a BGSU students, sibs and kids get in for just $5 (that's half the price of a regular day pass). Enjoy two pools, basketball, racquetball, Pickleball, an indoor track, and weight and cardio equipment. The BGSU Department of Theatre and Film presents The Wolves the debut play by Sarah DeLappe about a girls’ indoor soccer team that navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. The play, which earned DeLappe the 2015 Relentless Award for Playwriting and was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, runs for two weekends: at 8 p.m. Feb. 28, March 1-2 and 7-9, and at 2 p.m. on March 2, 3 and 9 in the Eva Marie Saint Theatre at the Wolfe Center for the Arts. The play is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc. Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and children; all tickets on the day of the performance are $20. Tickets are available at bgsu.edu/arts or by calling the Wolfe Center box office at 419-372-8171.

Public Skate sessions are open to general public.  When planning a Public Skating outing, plan to arrive early to avoid a possible wait in line. Participants are expected to obey posted rules and skate guards at all times.  Skate rentals are availble for those who need skates.  Please always check the Public Skate schedule as days and times are subject to change.
