Batman in Popular Culture Conference

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED The response for the Batman Conference at BGSU has been remarkable. As of Monday, Feb. 11, we have reached the capacity for the space we have reserved. If you are still interested in attending, we can put your name on a waitlist and let you know prior to the event if space becomes available.  Add your name to the wait list To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Batman, Bowling Green State University's Department of Popular Culture and the Ray and Pat Browne Library for Popular Culture Studies Batman in Popular Culture are hosting the Batman in Popular Culture Conference. The Dark Knight is a complex, enigmatic, and tragically appealing crime-fighter who has conquered all forms of mass media and popular culture. The  two-day conference will celebrate, discuss and debate the cultural significance of the Caped Crusader and his impact upon comics, mass media, and our society at large. Learning Community Room Selection Takes Place

NEW & TRANSFER STUDENTS | New learning community members select their on-campus room during this time. New students will only be able to select their room if they have completed the following: Online housing application Paid the $200 initial housing payment  Applied and accepted into their community of choice Room selection will begin after noon on March 18 and will close at 9 a.m. on May 1. If a student is a member of a community that does not require them to live in a learning community room, and the student decides they do not want to live with their community, they would follow the standard room selection process. ONLY learning community rooms will be available during this time. There are two different room selection processes that take place for learning community rooms.   Lifeguard Training The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses. Artists vs. Hunger: Empty Soup Bowl Fundraiser

The BGSU Clay Club is participating in an empty bowls fundraiser put on by the Brown Bag Food Project The event - at the Wood County Historical Museum, 13660 County Home  Road, BG, will help raise money and awareness about those who struggle with food insecurity. The Clay Club has donated approximately 300 handmade bowls for this fundraising event. Every bowl will be sold for $15, along with the soup to fill them. Every purchase will benefit the Brown Bag Food Project.

School of Art BFA Senior Thesis Exhibition

Fine Arts Center, Dorothy Uber Bryan and Willard Wankelman Galleries

Each spring, the senior Bachelor of Fine Arts students in the School of Art have the opportunity to showcase their senior thesis work at this premier exhibition. These consummate works of the students - ranging from metals, sculpture, ceramics, and painting to glass, digital art and graphic design - fil the gallery spaces in the Fine Arts Center for a two-week show. March 30, the opening night, offers a panel of artists in various fields who will present 'Where Next? The Future of Art" at 4 p.m., a video animation screening (204 Fine Arts Center) at 5 p.m., an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. in the Galleries, and the awards presentation at 5:45 p.m. This year a special collaboration between the School of Art and the Creative Writing Program will be featured from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 12 in the Bryan Gallery. Creative Writing BFA senior will read two of their pieces, including an ekphrastic piece that vividly describes a visual work of art by one of the senior BFA art seniors.  Admission is free to the exhibition and special events.
