Master of Fine Arts Exhibition 2019

Each spring, the senior Master of Fine Arts students in the School of Art have the opportunity to showcase their work at this premier exhibition. These consummate works of the students fill the gallery spaces in the Fine Arts Center for a two-week show. April 27, the opening night, offers an opening reception from 7-9 p.m. in the Galleries.  Admission is free to the exhibition and special events.

Canvas 101 Workshops

The Center for Faculty Excellence is offering on-campus Canvas 101 training workshops for faculty. These workshops provide experience with Canvas features including: settings, notifications, assignments, discussions, grading, and quizzes. They include a facilitator lead demonstration of Canvas and its features, a hands-on session, and an open question session. During the hands-on session learners will be asked to demonstrate the skills they have learned during the training. Seating is limited. Be sure to reserve your seat as soon as possible. Master Class featuring Patrick Sheridan, tuba

The College of Musical Arts will be hosting a master class featuring guest artist Patrick Sheridan, tuba. This event is free and open to the public. Mr. Sheridan will be in residency at the CMA and performing with the Wind Symphony on May 4 at 8 p.m. in Kobacker Hall. Biography Patrick Sheridan is one of the most celebrated tuba soloists in his instrument’s history.  He has performed more than 3,000 concerts in over 50 countries in venues ranging from the White House to NBA half-time shows to the Hollywood Bowl. At 20 years of age, Patrick became a member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band.  Since then, Patrick has gone on to become an incredibly diverse artist with concert performances transcending stylistic genres and building fans around the world for his instrument, the tuba. He has been featured in television and radio broadcasts on 4 continents including appearances most recently on NBC’s Today Show and NPR’s All Things Considered and Performance Today.   Beyond his busy performing life, Mr. Sheridan’s commitment to education is extensive. His wind students occupy principal positions in major international ensembles including orchestras in Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and many others. Mr. Sheridan has served on the music faculties at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, The Rotterdam Conservatory, The Royal Northern College of Music and The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.  Most recently, Patrick served on the music faculty at the Univeristy of California - Los Angeles where he was the Director of the UCLA Wind Ensemble, the UCLA Brass Ensemble and taught  tuba and euphonium.  In the Phoenix community, Patrick is the Music Director of The Salt River Brass.  Patrick also frequently works across the United States as a guest conductor with university bands and orchestras as well as high school and middle school all-state and regional honor bands and orchestras. Along with Sam Pilafian, Patrick is the co-author of the world’s best selling breathing method for instrumental improvement, The Breathing Gym which was awarded the 2009 EMMY® Award for Instructional/Informational Video Production.   As a composer and arranger, Mr. Sheridan's music and arrangements have been performed internationally by symphony orchestras, concert bands, marching bands, jazz bands and drum corps.  Patrick’s music, arrangements, CDs, DVDs, and books are published by Focus on Music, GIA Publications, De Haske Music, Carl Fischer, Mythen Hollanda and Dillon Music Publishing. Mr. Sheridan has over 20 years experience in the music industry as a design consultant.  Instruments influenced by Patrick’s designs are played in hundreds of professional orchestras, military bands and chamber ensembles around the world. Thousands of university, high school, middle school and elementary school students play on instruments in which Patrick has been involved in the design process.  He currently works as the Chief Design Consultant for XO Brass, Jupiter Band Instruments, and Hercules Stands.   Patrick is a member of ASCAP, an Honorary Member of Kappa Kappa Psi, and the Founder of The Band Director Academy, a continuing education program for music educators.   He holds a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in finance and marketing from the University of Michigan and spends his free time with his family hiking and camping in beautiful Arizona.

Accessibility and Content Creation Workshop

A basic human right should be access to information as it improves human capability, enriches life and provides independence. As an educator, accessibility begins in design of the content created versus something to fix or correct after. In this session you will learn about the types of accessibility tools for users, how to structure new and existing content for best practices in accessibility and a new tool for Canvas called Ally for assessing your content for the user. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare - Theatre and Film Mainstage Production -Spring

Advanced tickets are $15 for adults & $5 for students and children; all tickets on the day of the performance are $20.
The Department of Theatre and Film presents "A Midsummer Night's Dream," considered to be one of William Shakespeare's most beloved and enduring plays. Theseus, the Duke of Athens, is preparing for his marriage to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, A courtier seeks the Duke's intervention because his daughter, Hermia, will not agree to his choice of Demetrius as a husband: she's in love with Lysander. A pre-performance promenade event in the Wolfe Center lobby for the Friday, May 3 performance will enhance your experience of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Please plan to visit the lobby before the show, where you can visit with student artists, listen to creative writers, enjoy music and hear from the play's production team about the concept development of the costumes, sets and lights for the production before you see it. The pre-performance event, which will start at 7 p.m., is free. Tickets for the show are available online.
