April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it.  Each year, Recreation and Wellness and the Center for Violence Prevention and Education sponsor the SAAM 5k and Dog Walk. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we are unable to hold the race as planned this year, but would like to encourage the campus community to take part in supporting SAAM by doing your own 5k or Dog Walk.  How to participate: 1. Choose a day between April 1 and April 30 to go for either a 5k run/walk or take your dog for a walk. 2. Practice social distancing while completing this activity. 3. This organization exists to increase awareness of relationship violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sexual harassment, and how to prevent it.  Formed in 2014, the group assists with and coordinates events such as The Clothesline Project, a Sexual Assault Awareness 5K and Dog Walk, and numerous other outreach activities and partnerships with campus organizations and community members. As a part of The International Studies Program's International Film Festival 2020: Insider/Outsider, the Pallister French-Canadian Lecture Series presents Une colonie, A Colony. A timid 12-year-old girl is about to leave her native countryside to begin high school. She becomes lost in the hostile environment, and along the way, she encounters a young indigenous outsider who helps her embrace herself.  Introduction by Dr. Beatrice Guenther, International Studies and World Cultures and Languages (French). Distinguished Pallister speaker, the film's director, Genevieve Dulude-De Celles, will present her film and participate in a Q&A with campus and community members. A reception will follow the event.
