The Clothesline Project is a long-standing tradition at BGSU in partnership with The Cocoon. Throughout the week of 4/6 - 4/10 you can view the Clothesline Project on the CWGE Facebook @bgsu.cwge and join #BGSUVirtual to bring awareness and support survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Creating a t-shirt to contribute to the Clothesline Project is a positive way to explore personal experiences, unpack trauma, and find support through advocacy. #BGSUSAAM2020 Although this can be helpful and healing for survivors, the exhibit may be triggering. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it.  Each year, Recreation and Wellness and the Center for Violence Prevention and Education sponsor the SAAM 5k and Dog Walk. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we are unable to hold the race as planned this year, but would like to encourage the campus community to take part in supporting SAAM by doing your own 5k or Dog Walk.  How to participate: 1. Choose a day between April 1 and April 30 to go for either a 5k run/walk or take your dog for a walk. 2. Practice social distancing while completing this activity. 3. Document your activity: Take a photo/video Post photo/video and include the hashtags #BGSUSAAM2020 and #BGSUVirtual Optional: Caption your photo with a fact or statement about sexual violence and bring awareness to this important issue 4. Encourage additional friends/family to join this movement and get involved!

The University is being proactive in its response efforts to slow down the spread of the novel coronavirus and events continue to be evaluated. This event has been postponed for spring 2020, but it may be rescheduled to fall 2020 or spring 2021.    Dr. Karin Limburg, an ecologist at the State University of New York (SUNY) Colleg of Environmental Science and Forestry, will present the 2020 Pasakarnis-Buchanan Scientific Lecture, titled "Through the Heads of Fishes: Revelations in Fish Ecology Through Otolith Chemistry."  She will discuss otoliths, the small calcified organs in the hearing and balance systems of fishes. Their very structure and the chemistry they entrain represent some of the most detailed "natural logbooks" of any vertebrate group known to date. Both otolith structure and to some extent otolith chemistry provide natural calendar-clocks which date the timing of life-history events.  Her talk is based on case studies of complex migration of diadromous fishes and the exposure to and impacts of aquatic hypoxia on marine and Great Lakes fishes. Dr. Limburg will also present a public lecture on April 7 at 7 p.m. Details are available online.
