Media Career Week

Tue, Mar 30, 2021 9:30am to 6pm

Completely virtual via Zoom

Sign up today to attend the 10th annual Media Career Week event! In past years, we’ve planned an in-person event where current BGSU students would attend sessions from past alumni, potential employers, and an assortment of professionals from the media industry. This experience allowed for students to gain more “real-world” experience from industry professionals and provide them with an opportunity to expand their network. With COVID-19 guidelines preventing many student organizations from hosting in-person events, we found a way to still host this special event while remaining safe and abiding by university regulations. This year’s Media Career Week will consist of a series of Zoom calls beginning on Monday, March 29th, and continuing until Friday, April 2nd. We will be featuring a wide variety of professionals from different areas of the media industry speak to BGSU students about their career-related experience, tips for securing a job out of college, lessons learned in their post-grad life, and a variety of other questions that may arise during the call.  Learn more at http://bgsu.presence.io/event/media-career-week Or: https://linktr.ee/MediaCareerWeek

Screen - Play: An Evening of Staged Readings

Tue, Mar 30, 2021 7:30pm

Virtual Event

The event features informal staged readings of two short screenplays: The Red Room by CeCe Jenkins and War by Casey McAllister. The Red Room by CeCe Jenkins is a slow-burn thriller set in 2016 that begins with twenty-something Maya arriving in Phoenix, where, despite life experiences that have caused her to be wary, she will share an apartment with someone she has never met. Her roommate, Teresa, who is also a graduate student in her mid-twenties, has her own reasons for being cautious around other people. War by Casey McAllister is set in 2007 at a U.S. military base in the Yazidi region of Iraq. The script brings audiences into the somber reflections of its central character, a surgeon who has been at the front lines for four years. Creating a counterpoint, it allows audiences to spend time with an outgoing young soldier, who stays in touch with his parents and fiancé back home. The script takes audiences through their experiences as they intersect in life-changing ways.      Thoughtful discussions involving the author, the audience, and the performers follow each reading. The conversations will consider the authors’ inspirations and explore questions about story structure, characterization, tone, and dialogue.
