On July 1, 2014, Bowling Green State University embarked on its largest comprehensive fundraising endeavor in its history by launching the Changing Lives for the World Campaign. The goal was to raise $200 million to serve as a lasting promise for the future of BGSU.
With the conclusion of this campaign on December 31, 2020, the University is poised to leverage this support to ensure we create public good and serve Ohio and beyond. We cannot wait to share just how far we have come since six years ago.
Join Student Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion in conversation with Jen Manion, Associate Professor of History at Amherst College and author of Female Husbands.
Long before people identified as transgender or lesbian, there were female husbands and the women who loved them. Female husbands - people assigned female who transed gender, lived as men, and married women - were true queer pioneers.
Moving deftly from the colonial era to just before the First World War, Jen Manion uncovers the riveting and very personal stories of ordinary people who lived as men despite tremendous risk, danger, violence and threat of punishment. Female Husbands weaves the story of their lives in relation to broader social, economic and political developments in the United States and the United Kingdom, while also exploring how attitudes toward female husbands shifted in relation to transformations in gender politics and women's rights, ultimately leading to the demise of the category of 'female husband' in the early 20th century. Groundbreaking and influential, the book offers a dynamic, varied and complex history of the LGBTQ past.
This conversation will examine womxn's history through an intersectional, queer and trans lens. Please join us on Instagram Live @officialbgsufirelands
The LGBTQ+ Possibility Models series is presented by LGBTQ+ Programs, Deciding Student Program, and Marvin Center for Student Leadership to connect BGSU students, faculty and staff with LGBTQ+ BGSU grads working as professionals in the field of mental/behavioral healthcare.
We’re partnering with the Counseling Center and the Department of Psychology to feature BGSU grads sharing their experiences in navigating the field as LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as how their time at BGSU impacted their career aspirations and how being a part of the LGBTQ+ community affects the work they do. We hope this panel will provide LGBTQ+ students with examples of what is possible after graduation and give faculty and staff valuable insight into the experiences of LGBTQ+ working professionals.
