PROGRAM
What Was, written by Connor Gibbs, concerns a married couple and a large, mysterious mirror they find in an antique shop. After bringing it home, the mirror begins showing the wife things and events from her past and draws her in to its strange aura.
Andrew Junttoten’s State of the Union features real life politicians Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ted Cruz, as well as comedian Jon Stewart. The story reflects the Twitter-ification of contemporary politics and revolves around a debate between these two opposing political figureheads, narrated by Stewart.
I’m Sorry, by Connor Scroggins, tells the story of friends Xander, Petra, and Vita and explores the emotional fallout of what it means to try to atone for past mistakes and heal relationships. It features extensive use of prepared piano as the sound world reflects the inner emotional and psychological states of the characters.
Finally, Buried Light, written by JaeEun Schermerhorn, is an opera from the perspective of Uranium, the atomic element. The personification of this inanimate object allows us to experience what it means for such a dangerous substance to be disturbed and the ramifications for the communities affect by it.
Through the magic of marionetters, we meet the most admired man who ever lived. Baron Munchausen is renowned throughout the world as a fearless explorer of exotic lands, a pioneering aeronaut, accomplished horseman, daring visitor to the depths of the seas, brilliant commander of armies, and of course, skilled aster of the language of love.
