Later in the day, we will all gather at Arlyn's Good Beer at 5 p.m. for a bratwurst supper, ring toss, giant Jenga and a corn hole competition! Opening Reception: Friday, September 23rd at 6pm   BGSU is pleased to welcome an important work into the Fine Arts Center collection, Portrait of the Artist, Running by Daniel Bennett Schwartz (b.1929 - d. 2020). To celebrate the arrival of the painting, School of Art director Charlie Kanwischer, has curated an exhibition focusing on the process that the artist used to create his masterwork over a period of 16 years.   The exhibition will be on view from Sept. 16 - Oct. 30, 2022 and will be accompanied by a full-color catalog.

Take Five to Save Lives

Take 5 to Save Lives in an international campaign that encourages everyone to complete several action steps under 5 important themes to help prevention suicide. The themes are: LEARN, KNOW, DO, TALK, and SHARE. Be part of this campaign by sharing your “Take 5 to Save Lives” actions. LEARN: Take a few minutes to LEARN the warning signs, risk factors, and protective factors of suicide. KNOW: KNOW how to find help and support for yourself and others who may be suicidal. DO: Preventing suicide requires action. Everyone can DO something to get involved in the suicide prevention movement. TALK: TALKing about suicide does not put the idea of suicide in someone's head. It can be a lifeline. SHARE: SHARE Take 5 to help spread the word about one of the most important public health issues of our time. To learn more about Take 5 to Save Lives and ideas for action steps visit their website: https://www.take5tosavelives.org/take-5-steps. Use the following form to submit your action: https://forms.office.com/r/9vDsTM4Xnd.  All participants receive a FREE mental health advocate kit. Faculty, staff, and students can participate. Freddie & Frieda 5K

Alumni Gateway

We all know that Falcons fly! Whether you walk or run, lace up your shoes and fly like a Falcon around this 5K course. This year's race is extra special as BGSU alumnus and 1972 Olympic gold medalist Dave Wottle will officially start the race. This year's 5K starts at new Alumni Gateway entrance to campus on Thurstin Street and ends near the BGSU letters. Participants will receive a 100th anniversary commemorative Homecoming T-shirt.  More details to follow. Registration is required.

For those who have registered, please note that the tour will now depart from the Bowen-Thompson Student Union and will last approximately 90 minutes. Some walking involved. Participants will be dropped off at the Union at the conclusion of the tour to join their 50th reunion brunch and program.

Virtual:  Watch the Livestream  In-person:  Alumni Gateway, located north of Founders Hall After years of coordination, planning and construction, we look forward to dedicating the new campus gateway to Bowling Green State University that will connect the University and the city of Bowling Green on the 100th anniversary of Homecoming.  The gateway, located at Thurstin Avenue and Court Street, restores a welcoming community entrance to campus and showcases the University’s historic buildings - similar to the original gateway when BGSU was founded in 1910. The new campus gateway features an open-air plaza, fountain and inviting seating and gathering areas in a sylvan park-like setting. Join us at 10 a.m. on Saturday for the dedication.  Registration is not required. The ceremony will also be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.

  Registration for the Falcon Flame Vow Renewal Ceremony is now closed. We welcome all of our Falcon Flames to take part in the Vow Renewal Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 on the lawn at Prout Chapel – even if you were unable to officially register (please note, certificates and buttons will only be available to those who registered).  In honor of this event, Falcon Flames are encouraged to make a gift of $19.22 – the year of the first BGSU homecoming – or more, in support of the University’s National Center for Family and Marriage Research. Attendees can also see the learning spaces in the beautiful new Robert W. and Patricia A. Maurer Center, home of the Schmidthorst College of Business. Be transported to new environments as you experience the green screen technology inside the Kuhlin Center, home of the School of Media and Communication. Tour buildings in the historic campus center, as well as other buildings around campus.  Tour times to be announced.  Watch for details in August. Everyone is an artist. Participate in our community art project by adding colored glass pieces to a special glass mosaic work of art commemorating the 100th year of Homecoming.

At 11 a.m., meet 1972 Olympic gold medalist and BGSU alumnus Dave Wottle. Considered to be the greatest 800-meter run ever, watch his amazing “never give up” race and see his gold medal. Known for wearing a white cap when he ran, Dave will likely don one – and you can, too! A limited number of white caps commemorating the 50th anniversary of his gold medal win will be on hand.

Kids of all ages are invited to join the BGSU track team for an 800-meter run at the Perry Field House. BGSU alumnus and 1972 Olympic Gold medalist Dave Wottle will start the fun run commemorating the 50th anniversary of winning the gold! Attendees will be able to watch footage of Dave’s epic comeback win during the event, too. The first 50 to attend will receive a commemorative Dave Wottle bobblehead.
