Opening Reception: Friday, September 23rd at 6pm   BGSU is pleased to welcome an important work into the Fine Arts Center collection, Portrait of the Artist, Running by Daniel Bennett Schwartz (b.1929 - d. 2020). To celebrate the arrival of the painting, School of Art director Charlie Kanwischer, has curated an exhibition focusing on the process that the artist used to create his masterwork over a period of 16 years.   The exhibition will be on view from Sept. 16 - Oct. 30, 2022 and will be accompanied by a full-color catalog. 

Take 5 to Save Lives in an international campaign that encourages everyone to complete several action steps under 5 important themes to help prevention suicide. The themes are: LEARN, KNOW, DO, TALK, and SHARE. Be part of this campaign by sharing your “Take 5 to Save Lives” actions. LEARN: Take a few minutes to LEARN the warning signs, risk factors, and protective factors of suicide. KNOW: KNOW how to find help and support for yourself and others who may be suicidal. DO: Preventing suicide requires action. Everyone can DO something to get involved in the suicide prevention movement. TALK: TALKing about suicide does not put the idea of suicide in someone's head. It can be a lifeline. SHARE: SHARE Take 5 to help spread the word about one of the most important public health issues of our time. Join us starting at noon in the Bowden Thompson Quadrangle for our first event of the season. This will be a PVP event and "closed field". Velocity limit will be 175fps. As Long as blasters fall under that velocity and do not look like real steel firearms, they can be used. eye protection will be required. Glasses and most sunglasses will suffice as eye protection. IFC and Theta Chi are sponsoring a Saturday Talk with Dr. Louis Profeta. Dr. Profeta will discuss drugs, sexual assault and alcohol abuse on college campuses. He brings this reality to campuses across America. Some have described this as the most brutal, realistic and impactful presentation ever given on the topic.

Kurt Rosenwinkel Quartet, headliner for the Orchard Guitar Festival, will be giving a free clinic at 4 p.m. The full schedule of events for the festival can be accessed at BGSU.edu/GuitarFestival BIO Kurt Rosenwinkel has been a distinct and prominent creative voice at the forefront of modern music for nearly three decades. The American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer has gained international recognition for his deft artistry and unabated individualism since he first appeared on the New York music scene in 1991. His legacy as the pre-eminent jazz guitar voice of his generation is plainly evident on his eleven albums as a leader, each one the inspiration for legions of musicians young and old across the globe. Kurt’s aesthetic vision and multi-genre facility has caught the ear of some of modern music’s most prominent stars; collaborations with Eric Clapton, Q-tip, Gary Burton, Paul Motian, Joe Henderson, Brad Mehldau, and Donald Fagen are but a few highlights from a remarkably diverse and extensive catalog of over 150 sideman recordings. In the winter of 2016, Kurt formed the independent music label Heartcore Records with the focused intention of signing and promoting a new generation of musicians whose exacting standards match his own. Heartcore has also allowed Kurt to flourish in yet another dimension of music making, that of the record producer. He self-produced his eleventh album, 2017’s “Caipi”, and was more recently involved as a producer and guitarist on Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Pedro Martin’s 2019 release “Vox”. The future looks intensely bright for Rosenwinkel, who is consistently busy as a sideman and leader of several projects. With plans to tour and release new material from his improvising trio Bandit 65, Brazilian rock/fusion band Caipi, and a forthcoming live solo album, this visionary artist doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon.
