Latina/o/x Heritage Month Flag Display

Enjoy the flags of hispanic and latin american countries. Hispanic Heritage Month takes place between September 15 to October 15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community. Beginning in 1968, Hispanic Heritage Month was originally observed as “Hispanic Heritage Week” under President Lyndon Johnson, but it was later extended to a month during President Ronald Reagan’s term in 1988. The month also celebrates the independence days of several Latin American countries, including: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua on September 15th, Mexico on September 16th, and Chile on September 18th. They also include holidays that recognize Hispanic contributions such as Virgin Islands-Puerto Rico Friendship Day that is celebrated in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Opening Reception: Friday, September 23rd at 6pm   BGSU is pleased to welcome an important work into the Fine Arts Center collection, Portrait of the Artist, Running by Daniel Bennett Schwartz (b.1929 - d. 2020). To celebrate the arrival of the painting, School of Art director Charlie Kanwischer, has curated an exhibition focusing on the process that the artist used to create his masterwork over a period of 16 years.   The exhibition will be on view from Sept. 16 - Oct. 30, 2022 and will be accompanied by a full-color catalog.

Take Five to Save Lives

Take 5 to Save Lives in an international campaign that encourages everyone to complete several action steps under 5 important themes to help prevention suicide. The themes are: LEARN, KNOW, DO, TALK, and SHARE. Be part of this campaign by sharing your “Take 5 to Save Lives” actions. LEARN: Take a few minutes to LEARN the warning signs, risk factors, and protective factors of suicide. KNOW: KNOW how to find help and support for yourself and others who may be suicidal. DO: Preventing suicide requires action. Everyone can DO something to get involved in the suicide prevention movement. TALK: TALKing about suicide does not put the idea of suicide in someone's head. It can be a lifeline. SHARE: SHARE Take 5 to help spread the word about one of the most important public health issues of our time.   Welcome families! We are excited about your arrival. Please follow these steps to check in when you arrive: Families need to pre-register for Falcon Family Weekend by Thursday, Sept. 29 in order to fully participate in the weekend festivities. Check-in will take place from 3-9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30th and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 1 and will take place in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Multipurpose Room.  At check-in, you will be greeted by the Office of Parent, Family and New Student Connections and they will be able to answer any questions you have about Family Weekend.  You will receive your welcome bag which will include: Family Weekend Event Schedule Campus Map Event Tickets - Family Weekend is free. However, some of the events will require a separate registration and may require the purchase of a ticket to participate.

Dueling Pianos

The Oaks

  Head to the Oaks for dinner and a show! This interactive musical comedy experience will have you singing, shouting, dancing and laughing. The audience will control the direction of the show by writing their favorite songs on request slips that they bring to the pianos. Young, energetic and exciting entertainers then perform these songs, while encouraging audience participation. The fact that many of your favorite rock, r&b and rap songs can be performed on the piano will leave you amazed.  ---------------- Cost to participate: No pre-sale tickets will be sold. Simply head to the Oaks for dinner and the show is included with the price of your meal. Dinner tickets must be purchased in order to participate. $12 - For guests and students who do not have a meal plan. $0 - For students who have a meal plan that covers All You Care to Eat dining facilities. ----------------

Wildlife film "Hellbent" screening

Come join us as filmakers Alex Goetz and Justin Grubb showcase their latest film Hellbent.   In a small rural town in Pennsylvania, the refuge of a rare salamander and the only source of clean drinking water for 700 people is threatened by the installation of a fracking waste injection well, prompting community members to band together and mount an epic fight for the rights of their people and nature.   This film brought to you by BGSU Alumni Alex Goetz and Justin Grubb. Alex Goetz is a two-time Emmy nominated wildlife filmmaker and photographer, who has been recognized by National Geographic WILD as winner of the 2016 "Wild to Inspire" film competition and is the co-founder of a production company called Running Wild Media, which specializes in wildlife and conservation filmmaking. Justin Grubb is a filmmaker, photographer, published writer, naturalist, and co-founder of Running Wild Media. Justin earned his B.Sc. in Biology at Bowling Green State University and his Masters of Biology at Miami University. With years of international wildlife field research and formal/informal teaching experience, Justin combines these two fields with media to enhance science communication.
