BGSU Undergraduate Student Government and the Office of Student Engagement are teaming up to showcase all the good work that the student orgs have done this year with an exciting giveaway! 🙌 Student Orgs can enter this contest for a chance to win tickets to stay in the Student Engagement Football Box for the BGSU Football vs Toledo game on Tuesday, November 14th. Here's how your student org can enter: Create an Instagram Reel telling us about what you do and/or how you have worked to encourage engagement within the BGSU community. You can use fun trends or simply create a highlight reel for your org, creativity is key! The Silent Witness Project memorializes those who have lost their life as a result of domestic violence. Life-size silhouettes will be on display to recount the story represented by that figure. The display will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.   CONTENT WARNING: This event will share the stories of those who have been impacted by violence. Success (and failure) at Spotify, SiriusXM and beyond, all from someone without a major until BGSU made him choose one. Joel Freimark never related to people who knew exactly what they wanted to do as a career since they were a kid, and followed their path without failure to a successful life. Joel spent nearly a decade working for Spotify and SiriusXM, self-published a book, and had a modestly successful YouTube channel and podcast (the YouTube channel now serves as proof that he once had hair). Before that he did everything from warehouse labor, to IT, to theater tech, to retail, to apartment building maintenance; and now that he’s in his mid-40s, he thinks he might know what he wants to do with his life…but he’s not totally sure. Looking back, the past two decades of Joel’s life can be seen as a masterclass in taking both calculated and utterly foolish risks, which led to equal amounts of joyous success and heartbreaking failure. While the wins were fun, Joel feels the losses were far more important, yet the part of careers most people don’t like to talk about. So, if you want to hear about someone who moved to one of the most expensive cities on Earth without a job, eventually landed a job he had no direct on-resume qualifications for, and managed to follow every path simultaneously, come join us in the Radbill Center (314 McLeod Hall, formerly known as the Math Science Building) on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m. for a casual conversation. Students can meet for a brief, informal, 15 minute consultation with BGSU Counseling Center staff that do not take the place of therapy.   Cineposium: Short Productions by Emerging Filmmakers  Hosted by Lucas Ostrowski, Associate Professor, Department of Theatre and Film   This event features projects by current and/or former film students. It is an opportunity for the filmmakers, the audience, and the film faculty to discuss production challenges, lessons learned, and filmmakers’ choices about narrative elements, sound design, lighting, composition, editing, casting, costumes, settings, and color design.
