Comfort in Crafts

Join the Office of Health and Wellness at Comfort in Crafts on Monday, Nov. 13 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center, Youth and Family Classroom 188. Join them in making bracelets and stress balls. The first 20 students to arrive will be able to make keychains or pens. For more Information, email Emily Case at casee@bgsu.edu.

This is a great way to start your week with guided mindfulness practice, and other tools to promote mental well-being.  Mondays | 8:30 – 9 AM | August 21 – December 4 No session Sep 4 (Labor Day), Oct 9 (Fall Break) Send questions or comments to Ashley Hartman at ashthom@bgsu.edu and 419-372-4584.  If you are struggling with your mental health contact the Counseling Center. An on-call counselor is available at 419-372-2081 for crisis situations from 8:00 a.m. to 5pm Monday-Friday. You can also utilize the Wood County Crisis Line at 419-502-4673 after Counseling Center business hours. The Crisis Text Line is also available. Text HOME to 741741 for a crisis counselor or text STEVE to 741741 for a culturally competent crisis counselor. You can also text or dial 988 to be connected to a crisis counselor 24/7. CFE Workshop: Designing a Course Syllabus that Encourages Growth Mindsets and Engages Students

Workshop Facilitator: Jennifer Stuart, Assistant Teaching Professor, Applied Statistics and Operations Research (ASOR) and CFE Faculty Associate Thinking about the upcoming semester? Want to revise your syllabus and, more importantly, get students to engage with it? This workshop is designed to provide a space for you to critically evaluate your own syllabus and/or existing syllabi examples to determine the messaging sent to students that may impact how they view your course, content and classroom environment. Additionally, you will work with peers to develop syllabi language to turn fixed mindset phrasing into growth mindset phrasing. Finally, we will discuss activities that can be employed on the first day of a new semester to get students to engage with the syllabus you have created, their classmates and you!  Workshop Categories: Expectations, Support, Engagement To register for this workshop, use the Fall 2023 CFE Workshop Registration Form.     Advance registration is required. Understanding Changes to the 2024-25 FAFSA: An Open Forum for BGSU Faculty and Staff

The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships will host an open forum at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13 in the BTSU Theater for faculty and staff who are interested in understanding the changes and enhancements to the FAFSA in order to support BGSU students and their families when the form opens in December 2023. Not only can students expect changes to the form, they will encounter changes to: Application terms Dependency status and roles Aid eligibility Tax information and data permissions For example, the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is now the Student Aid Index (SAI) and there will now be three different ways to calculate a student’s eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant. We will highlight some of these major changes, then open the floor to faculty and staff for questions. For the latest information about the FAFSA—including the date the application will officially open—visit bgsu.edu/financial-aid/fafsa.

It's Real: College Students & Mental Health

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)-produced film It’s Real: College Students and Mental Health is designed to raise awareness about mental health issues commonly experienced by students and is intended to be used as part of a school’s educational program to encourage help-seeking. By featuring real stories and experiences, It’s Real conveys that depression and other mental health conditions are real illnesses that can be managed through specific treatments and interventions. It encourages students to be mindful of the state of their mental health, to acknowledge and recognize when they are struggling and to take steps to seek help.
