During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September, take our #BeThe1To challenge!  Visit https://www.bgsu.edu/counseling-center/services/BeThe1To.html watch the five videos, and take a short evaluation based on information in the videos here.  BGSU students, faculty, and staff who complete the evaluation will be entered into a raffle to win 2023's Counseling Center t-shirt designed by a BGSU student! 10 shirts will be raffled off in October.

CFE Workshop: Course Evaluation Data: Using Results to Inform Pedagogy

Workshop Facilitators: Kristen Hidinger, CFE Instructional Designer & Jessica Turos, Associate Director of Academic Assessment     During this workshop, you will learn about BGSU’s course evaluation process and discuss ways to apply data to enhance teaching and learning in future semesters. We will explore campus-wide and college-specific results from previous semesters and review how to access course evaluation results and feedback. We will also discuss pedagogical tools and strategies based on each of the six common evaluative questions. Whose Constitution Is It, Anyway? A Constitution Day Lecture and Moderated Q&A

Linda Greenhouse will present the lecture, Whose Constitution Is It, Anyway?, followed by a moderated Q&A session. Greenhouse is a senior research scholar in law at Yale Law School, where she taught from 2009 to 2023. For the previous thirty years, she was the Supreme Court correspondent for The New York Times and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for her coverage of the Court. Her commentary on the Court appears frequently in The Times’ opinion pages, as well as in the New York Review of Books and other publications. She is a graduate of Radcliffe College (Harvard) and earned a Master of Studies in Law degree from Yale Law School. In her extracurricular life, she has served on a number of nonprofit boards, including the Harvard Board of Overseers and the National Senate of Phi Beta Kappa. She served from 2017 to 2023 as president of the American Philosophical Society, the country’s oldest learned society, founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1743. She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, where she served on the Council for more than 20 years, and an honorary member of the American Law Institute. She is the author of six books, including Becoming Justice Blackmun, a biography of the Supreme Court Justice; The U.S. Supreme Court: A Very Short Introduction; and a memoir, Just a Journalist. Justice on the Brink: A Requiem for the Supreme Court was published by Random House in 2021. She has received 13 honorary degrees. She and her husband, Eugene Fidell, live in New Haven, CT and in Stockbridge, MA. Their daughter, Hannah Fidell, is a film director and writer in Los Angeles. Constitution Day events are made possible by the support of the Bernard Mann Constitutional Law Education Fund. Event is free and open to the public.

Let's Talk is a free and confidential service available to BGSU students. Students can meet for a brief, informal, 15 minute consultation with BGSU Counseling Center staff that do not take the place of therapy. Let's Talk consultations are not appropriate for urgent concerns or mental health emergencies. During this consultation, BGSU clinicians will listen to your concerns, offer support, information and resources.

Sustainability Leadership Certificate

The Sustainability Leadership Certificate (SLC) is a foundational program to help students learn how to integrate sustainability into their own leadership style.  This certificate, created by the C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement and the Office of Campus Sustainability, will help participants develop an understanding of basic sustainability concepts and methods to lead sustainably in group settings and in your community.  Additionally, participants will learn about how to advocate for sustainability and how to become an active citizen in society. The SLC incorporates foundational elements of the Social Change Model of Leadership and builds upon the Marvin Center’s values of integrity and purpose.     Screenwriting Masterclass with Mitch Brian: “Story into Movie – Connecting the Audience to Word & Image”   Mitch Brian is a screenwriter, filmmaker, and educator. He co-created Batman: The Animated Series and has written screenplays and teleplays for major studios, networks, and producers. His recent work included uncredited work on The Last Voyage of the Demeter and, with co-writer Kevin Willmott, a recent option of their screenplay Rio Negro to the producers of Blackkklansman and Get Out.
