During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September, take our #BeThe1To challenge!  Visit https://www.bgsu.edu/counseling-center/services/BeThe1To.html watch the five videos, and take a short evaluation based on information in the videos here.  BGSU students, faculty, and staff who complete the evaluation will be entered into a raffle to win 2023's Counseling Center t-shirt designed by a BGSU student! 10 shirts will be raffled off in October.

Get excited for the Fall 2023 Weeks of Welcome, which begins at move-in and extends through Fall Break.  During this celebration, explore opportunities hosted by the campus community that will help you embrace the adventure of creating your ultimate BGSU experience. New Students - There will be a series of required programming that you need to attend between Aug. 17-20.  New and Returning Students - There will be hundreds of events hosted for ALL students throughout Weeks of Welcome that will be kicked off on Aug. 15 and last through Oct. 2. 2023 State of the University Address

As we look ahead to this academic year, we invite you to join President Rodney K. Rogers for the State of the University. The address will highlight how Bowling Green State University will continue to move Forward., together, and our collective role in positioning BGSU as a 21st century university for the public good. For those unable to attend the State of the University in person, a livestream of the address will be available. On the Firelands campus, the livestream will be available for viewing in 105 Foundation Hall. Following the address, celebrate Homecoming week with friends and colleagues at the All-Campus Picnic, which gets underway at 11:30 a.m. on the Bowen-Thompson Quadrangle. With a focus on sustainability, the picnic will be a zero-waste event.

It's Real: College Students & Mental Health

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)-produced film It’s Real: College Students and Mental Health is designed to raise awareness about mental health issues commonly experienced by students and is intended to be used as part of a school’s educational program to encourage help-seeking. By featuring real stories and experiences, It’s Real conveys that depression and other mental health conditions are real illnesses that can be managed through specific treatments and interventions. It encourages students to be mindful of the state of their mental health, to acknowledge and recognize when they are struggling and to take steps to seek help. Have you made mistakes in your personal life that you want some advice and support on owning up to? It isn’t easy to take responsibility for our mistakes, but owning up to our faults is part of a healthy adult experience. Also Blow Pops will be available.   Register here!!! 11/15: Bubblegum and Bravery: Are you scared about asking someone out, making a phone call, or asking questions in class? Feeling safe is important, but growing a sense of bravery is arguably more than half the battle of being an adult. Let's Talk is a free and confidential service available to BGSU students. Students can meet for a brief, informal, 15 minute consultation with BGSU Counseling Center staff that do not take the place of therapy. Let's Talk consultations are not appropriate for urgent concerns or mental health emergencies. During this consultation, BGSU clinicians will listen to your concerns, offer support, information and resources.
