Empty Place at the Table

Social House @ The Oaks, Carillon Place, Kreischer Sundial, and The Nest in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union

Gender Violence Prevention and Education Services presents Empty Place at the Table to honor and recognize women and children in Northwest Ohio who have had their lives taken due to domestic violence. This project began in 1993 in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, and the display demonstrates the way domestic violence devastates a community and family. These victims of violence will not be forgotten. All stories have been provided by the Bethany House in Toledo, OH. The exhibit will be on display from October 1st to October 31st in Social House @ The Oaks, Carillon Place, Kreischer Sundial, and The Nest in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. A Student of Concern Report serves as a way for community members to share their concerns for a student going through a personal hardship (e.g., mental health or physical health concern, food or financial insecurity, disruption to others, behavioral concerns). "Let's Talk" - Free drop-in counseling consultations

"Let's Talk" is a free and confidential service available to all BGSU students. Students can meet for a brief, informal, 15-minute consultation with BGSU Counseling Center staff. They can listen to specific problems, help explore solutions and introduce you to what it’s like to speak with a member of the staff.  Please note: "Let's Talk" does not take the place of therapy, and consultations are not appropriate for urgent concerns or mental health emergencies. Art, Trauma, and Healing: A Community-Engagement Series: "Art on the Road to Healing, Dr. Cara Hagan

A talk/art-sharing experience that encapsulates Dr. Hagan’s experience working in community with a specific focus on addressing trauma through the arts. She brings her experience working in family services and mental health communities, to attend to the gendered dimensions of domestic violence (DV), and the possibilities of the expressive arts to provide a healing practice. Hagan will engage participants in the role of community-engaged expressive art in generating participatory practices to help people heal themselves and each other.   Dr. Hagan, currently an Associate Professor and the Program Director for the MFA in Contemporary Theatre and Performance at the New School, is a specialist in social justice, dance, and interdisciplinary art and site-specific work.
