Survivor Safe Space

We recognize that October can be a difficult time for people, so every Thursday this month the CWGE lounge in 278 Hayes Hall will be a designated safe space for anyone who needs time to decompress, meditate, or talk to one of our staff members. Additionally, the lounge is open Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm—students, faculty, and staff are welcome to stop in for support, a snack, a hot beverage, or a free craft from our craft cart. To individuals with disabilities, please indicate if you need additional services, assistance, or modifications to fully participate in this event either by contacting the CWGE or Accessibility Services at access@bgsu.edu or 419-372-8495. Please notify Accessibility Services prior to the event. Contest Details: Date: October 31, 11 AM - 1 PM Location: Falcon Square OR: Submit your costume photo to firestugovt@bgsu.edu by 5 PM on October 31 Prizes for Students: 1st Place: $50 Amazon E-Gift Card 2nd Place: $25 Amazon E-Gift Card 3rd Place: $15 Amazon E-Gift Card Prizes for Faculty/Staff: (Prize TBD) Winners will be announced via email on Monday, November 4! Important Guidelines: For safety and campus climate concerns, please avoid the following costumes: Costumes that mock or demean others, promote violence, illegal substances, or activities. Costumes that reduce a culture to something worn as fashion or mockery. Sexually explicit costumes. Overly scary costumes (e.g., clowns). Costumes that hide your identity (e.g., Hazmat or gorilla suits). Face paint that covers more than half your face. Props that resemble weapons (e.g., plastic swords, guns, wands).

Well-O-Ween Walk and Wellness Activities

Move for your mood and join us for a Well-O-Ween Walk! Stop by anytime between 11 AM - 1 PM to treat yourself to a short and energizing Halloween-themed walk with great company. Plus, receive free healthy treats, the chance to receive your flu shot and participate in additional wellness activities. Date/Time: Thursday, October 31 from 11 AM – 1 PM Location: Perry Field House Track Room Free for faculty, staff, students, and community members  Wellness Activities: 1-mile walk with optional pumpkin strength circuits Updated COVID-19 Booster and Flu Shot Clinic provided by Wood County Hospital Open from 9 AM - 1 PM Please bring your insurance card and photo ID. Free healthy treats courtesy of BGSU Dining Ride the Blender Bike and make a free smoothie! Relax with Therapy Dogs Mental health resources Also take part in our pumpkin decorating contest. Work with teams, colleagues, student organizations, or friend. Any group on campus can join the pumpkin decorating contest. All pumpkins need to be turned in by Friday, October 25. The winning team with the most votes receives a team prize!

The third lecture of the series features Ralph Lindeman, winner of the book category - professional division. Ralph will discuss his book Confederates from Canada: John Yates Beall and the Rebel Raids on the Great Lakes.  This lecture will take place via Zoom. Register to attend Ralph Lindeman's lecture. "Let's Talk" - Free drop-in counseling consultations

"Let's Talk" is a free and confidential service available to all BGSU students. Students can meet for a brief, informal, 15-minute consultation with BGSU Counseling Center staff. They can listen to specific problems, help explore solutions and introduce you to what it’s like to speak with a member of the staff.  Please note: "Let's Talk" does not take the place of therapy, and consultations are not appropriate for urgent concerns or mental health emergencies. Join us in the Planetarium for the next public talk in the Expanding Boundaries Speakers Series, titled “James Webb Space Telescope” presented by Peter Blass, BGSU Department of Chemistry. Not since the Hubble has a space telescope so captured the imagination of the public.  Join us to discuss the James Webb Space Telescope, what it is, where it is and some of the early results. This program is part of a series of six sessions on a wide range of interdisciplinary topics, each with a connection to astronomy. Programs in the series will be every other Thursday throughout the semester and will follow the regularly scheduled 6:30 p.m. Planetarium show. All Expanding Boundaries Speakers Series events are free and open to the public.  This talk will also be available to livestream via Zoom.

The screening of the Halloween 48 Hour Film Projects has become one of main holiday events on campus. The films are all crowd pleasers and the event features a costume contest. So, whether you filmed the weekend before, are looking for a place to wear an outrageous costume, or want some entertainment well suited to Halloween make sure to attend the event. Presented by BG Reel, the student organization that arranges the annual BGSU Film and Media Festival.
