2024 Falcon BEST Robotics Competition

Falcon BEST 2024 Season Events Kick-off Day: Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 | Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Multipurpose Room, BGSU Practice Day: Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024 | Kokosing Hall, Innovation Lab, BGSU Opportunity for registered school teams to practice on the game field with their developing robots         Game Day: Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024 | Stroh Center, BGSU (1535 E Wooster St, Bowling Green, OH 43042 43402) 9 a.m. Doors open to the public 10 a.m. Competition begins Concessions available Awards ceremony will begin aproximately approximately 3:35 p.m. in the Stroh There are two parallel competitions associated with the BEST program -- the robotics competition and the BEST Award. For the robotics competition, each participating school is provided an identical kit of equipment and parts, a set of game rules and given six weeks to design, build and test a remote controlled robot that outperforms other robots. Engineers, University faculty members and other technical professionals from local industry serve as team mentors, advising and guiding students throughout the design and construction of their robot; However, students perform all of the work.

Ray Browne Conference for Cultural and Critical Studies   The historic Ray Browne Conference for Cultural and Critical Studies is returning Saturday November 2nd in the Pallister Room of Jerome Library from 10-7pm. This conference is student organized featuring graduate students and upperclassmen presenting their research in areas that include Black popular culture, film, television, Taylor Swift, comics and illustrated novels and more! Keynote speech by Department of Popular Culture professor Jeremy Wallach. Other featured guests include Department of Popular Culture professor Charles Coletta and retired BGSU Popular Music Librarian Bill Schurk. Learn to Skate Fall II|Saturday

Learn to Skate lessons offered to ages three through adult, including beginner to advanced skill levels.  Programming introduces the wide range of skating opportunities from figure skating and hockey to recreational skating.  Additional opportunities available based on skating skill and interest. Sport helmet required. Must be provided by the participant.  Fall II Classes  • Oct. 19 – Dec. 4  • Ages 3 – Adult; Beginner – Advanced classes  • Classes offered Saturday, Sunday, Mondays  • Class time based on age and skill level  • 30-minute class on the Multi-Purpose ice  • $78.00, 6-weeks  • Includes rental skates and 6 complementary Public Skate admissions  • Additional classes for Basic 3 and above held on Wednesday evenings  Winter I Classes: Jan. 11 – Feb. 19  Register for classes  For more information, contact Laura Fischer or the Newlove Pro Shop, at dunnle@bgsu.edu or 419-372-2264.

Les Marionettes du Mal present Les Fleurs du Mal, inspired by the work of Charles Baudelaire and the centennial anniversary of the birth of surrealism, this celebration of the avant-garde is an immersive mix of digital projections, shadow puppetry, and experimental live theater.   Limited reserve seating!   This presentation contains themes of drug abuse, physical and emotional abuse, prostitution, violence, profanity and war.
