Keynote Presentation: "Global Engagement in the Age of AI: Why Intercultural Communication Skills Matter More Than Ever."
In an age when artificial intelligence can translate text and speech with remarkable efficiency, one might imagine that developing intercultural skills has lost relevancy. However, the need remains vital for professionals and citizens who can collaborate across cultures, interpret intercultural contexts, and build cross-cultural relationships. Communicating effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse communities requires more than transactional translation; it requires empathy, respect, and the ability to see from multiple cultural perspectives. Global engagement, moreover, involves cultivating a worldview that recognizes the lived meaning of cultural traditions. This presentation explores concrete examples to illustrate why interdisciplinary learning—especially the integration of language study and intercultural competence—remains vital for success in our interconnected world.
