Unraveling Faculty Burnout: A Podcast Conversation

Thu, Nov 13, 2025 10:30am to 11:30am

Virtual Event

Faculty burnout is at an all-time high—driven by increasing workloads, shifting expectations, and a culture that often undervalues rest, reflection, and connection. In this session, we’ll discuss key insights from Dr. Rebecca Pope-Ruark’s conversation on the Teaching in Higher Ed podcast, where she explores the roots of burnout and how we might begin to unlearn the habits that sustain it. Dr. Pope-Ruark is the author of Unraveling Faculty Burnout: Pathways to Reckoning and Renewal and director of Faculty Professional Development at Georgia Tech. We’ll use the podcast as a jumping-off point for dialogue around our own experiences and strategies for fostering well-being—individually and institutionally.  Why you should attend:  Recognize signs and systemic causes of burnout in higher education.  Reflect on your own relationship to productivity, purpose, and balance.  Discuss actionable strategies for sustaining well-being and reconnecting with meaningful work.  To register for this session, use the Fall 2025 Rooted & Resilient CFE Session Registration Form.     Advance registration is required. Registration will close one business day before the scheduled event. You will receive the Zoom link one day before the event To find out more information about this session, visit the Session Catalog page of the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) website.  If you have any questions about this event, email the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) at cfe@bgsu.edu    If you need special services, assistance or appropriate modifications to fully participate in the event, please contact the CFE office or Accessibility Services at access@bgsu.edu or 419-372-8495.
