Summer Faculty Writing Retreat Application - NOW OPEN!

Join the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and University Libraries for the Summer 2026 Faculty Writing Retreat, an intensive, three-day, in-person writing retreat running from Wednesday, July 29, to Friday, July 31, 2026. Designed to advance participants’ individual goals and projects, this retreat will provide you with an opportunity to connect with colleagues, accomplish scholarship, creative activity, research and/or writing goals, and receive resources and support from various departments across campus.   During each day of the retreat, you will have dedicated time to write and work individually on your own projects. The retreat also includes opportunities for goal-setting and networking, as well as sessions and individual consultations. At the end of the retreat, you will reflect on your accomplishments and set goals for the upcoming academic year.  By participating, you will be able to:  Identify specific and attainable goals for your scholarship, creative activity, research and/or writing.  Advance your productivity.   Connect with BGSU colleagues.   Identify campus partners and resources that can support your scholarship, creative activity, research and/or writing.   Reflect on your progress towards achieving your goals.   Devise a plan to maintain your productivity for the upcoming academic year.   What you need to know:  You must be able to participate in the entirety of the three-day retreat to apply for this opportunity and attend the event. Participation is open to full-time qualified rank faculty (QRF) and tenure-track faculty (TTF).  Interested individuals must apply to participate in the retreat. HOW TO APPLY STEP 1: Complete the 2026 Summer Faculty Writing Retreat Application Template. STEP 2: Complete the 2026 Summer Faculty Writing Retreat Application Form.  Apply by Wednesday, May 13. Applications will be reviewed, and acceptance will be based on the strength of the application, including clarity of goals and potential benefit to the applicant's scholarly and/or creative activity. Introduction to Alternative Grading Practices

Grades shape how students approach their work, but do they foster deeper learning? In this session, we will explore the purpose of grading and examine alternative practices such as standards-based and specifications grading. Participants will reflect on why and how we grade, consider the impact on student motivation, and discuss practical strategies for aligning grading with authentic learning goals. By participating in this session, you will be able to: Analyze the impact of traditional grading practices on student motivation and learning behaviors. Compare and contrast the structures and pedagogical implications of standards-based and specifications grading models. Evaluate strategies for aligning grading practices with stated learning outcomes. All administrative staff members and the BGSU community are invited to attend the 43rd Annual Administrative Staff Awards Banquet hosted by the Administrative Staff Council (ASC). RSVP by April 21 This year, the awards banquet will feature: An opportunity to connect with colleagues and reflect on all the accomplishments of the academic year A special address from President Rogers  A celebration of the Spirit of BG winners from the past year Ceremony for the following prestigious awards: Dr. Michael R. Ferrari Award - Administrative staff member of the year Newcomer of the Year Award - New administrative staff member of the year BG Best Award - Administrative staff member has done something innovative or shown extreme commitment NEW! Falcon Impact Award -  Administrative staff member, office, or team whose work has made meaningful, positive contributions at BGSU in ways that may not fit neatly into other Administrative Staff Council award categories.
