From Policy to Pedagogy: Developing Your AI Teaching Philosophy and Fostering Student Dialogue

Wed, Sep 23, 2026 11am to 12:30pm

Virtual Event

As artificial intelligence tools become increasingly integrated into student work, faculty face a critical question: How do we move beyond policies that simply restrict or detect AI use toward pedagogical approaches that foster learning, integrity, and meaningful dialogue? This interactive workshop guides you through the process of articulating your core teaching values and translating them into a clear AI Teaching Philosophy. You will explore frameworks for compassionate, productive conversations with students about AI use and academic integrity—conversations that build trust rather than defensiveness. By the end of this session, you will have identified your pedagogical values and practical strategies for creating a classroom culture where students understand not just the rules, but the why behind them.  Why you should attend:  Distinguish between punitive and pedagogical approaches to addressing AI use and academic integrity concerns. Identify their core pedagogical values related to student learning, intellectual development, and academic integrity.  Discuss their AI Teaching philosophy and reasoning for AI permissions in their classrooms.  Develop AI Boundaries for your classroom based on your pedagogical values.  This session is part of the Assignment Design in the AI Era Series, designed to guide you through developing a coherent AI teaching philosophy, redesigning assignments for authenticity and skill-building, and creating transparent learning experiences that help students understand the "why" behind their work. To register for this event, use the Fall 2026 Assignment Design in the AI Era CFE Session Registration Form.  Advance registration is required. Registration will close one business day before the scheduled event.
