About this Event
Michael and Sara Kuhlin Center, Bowling Green, OH 43403
The Graduate Communication Association (GCA) is an organization of media and communication scholars in the School of Media and Communication at Bowling Green State University, whose interdisciplinary set-up studies the varying natures and impacts of communication between humans. Our theme this year is Transgressions: Expanding Peripheries through Inclusive Perspectives. Often throughout history, the only way marginalized voices could make themselves heard was by violating existing norms, disobeying oppressive laws, and shattering the status quo. These transgressions have been central to making our world more inclusive. This conference invites you to recognize how the field of communication responds to and reflects upon these transgressions in its scholarship. We invite you to submit your work (papers, posters, extended abstracts, and/or creative submissions) on this transgressive nature of communication. The GCA conference welcomes research from undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
Work centering marginalized and subaltern voices
Digital activism and online dissent
Queer representations in media
Political discourse and resistance strategies
Inclusive storytelling in popular culture
Transgressive communication in educational settings
Environmental activism and communication
Cultural transgressions and identity exploration
Media literacy and empowerment
Community building through transgressive communication
