Frídọ̀mù Kọ̀nìfáìndì is beyond the Yorubalization of the
oxymoron confined freedom. It is a solo performance that
combines storytelling and movement exploration to show
the limitations of man in his society. The performer
carefully selects false and true memories from his past
to posit that freedom is merely a mirage that we struggle
with in the world of the living, dead, unborn. At the
centre of this piece is the Yorùbá concept of Eré
(performance) which motivates the performer to disrupt
hegemonic norms and standards while opening spaces
for dialogues. In this performance, we also get to see how
an African body engage with gaze, (dis)comfort, and most
importantly, freedom in confinement.
