Introduced and moderated by Tricia Ennis, BGSU POPC graduate student, and SYFY WIRE FANGRRLS contributing editor.

Ms. Ennis received her undergraduate degree in Film and Media Arts from Temple University in 2012 and has spent more than a decade working in the fields of film, television, and media criticism. In 2015 she began writing for SYFY WIRE's female-oriented vertical FANGRRLS and has spent the intervening years focusing on discussions of gender, sex, and sexuality in genre media.

Annihilation is a 2017 science fiction film by writer-director Alex Garland that tells the story of a group of women sent deep inside a mysterious Shimmer that has appeared on the coast of America. Dealing with themes of loss, desperation, death, and self-destruction, Annihilation offers a prism of possible readings and a perfect opportunity for discussion of the possibility of narrative symbolism.
