Join us on August 24, 2023, from 5-8 pm at BGSU Fine Art Gallery for an evening that promises an exploration of mastery and legacy through two distinct exhibitions that mark the opening of our 2023/2024 exhibition Program.
In the Wankelman Gallery "Bill Helwig: A Life in Enamel", a retrospective curated by BGSU student Matthew Bowlus that unravels the exceptional journey of the revered enamel artist, Bill Helwig. With a prolific five-decade career, Helwig's works are a testament to his unparalleled ability to marry color, texture, and form. This exhibition spotlights meticulously crafted pieces, from his nascent experimental forms to his mature, signature style. Beyond the enameling brilliance, each piece underscores Helwig's knack for embedding narratives, emotions, and a unique perspective on life and the natural realm.
Parallel to this is "Life's Work: Emeriti Exhibition", a group exhibition within the Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery honoring eight of BGSU's distinguished retired faculty. These artists, having dedicated years to teaching, have also tirelessly pursued their personal artistic vision throughout. Within retirement years, artists have had the opportunity to magnify thier artistic pursuits, showcasing their accumulated passion and achievements after decades of creative excellent and education.
All students and the local community are cordially invited to this unique juxtaposition of seasoned craft and academic excellence. Don't miss the opportunity to celebrate with us on August 24th - A Conversation with the Artists 5-6pm, followed by a reception 6-8pm.
