Fostering a sense of community and belonging in remote learning contexts can help students feel less isolated and more connected to their peers, the instructor, and the course content. This workshop focuses on elements of online pedagogy that promote community building in remote learning. Referencing the Community of Inquiry framework, this session focuses on online and remote teaching strategies and Canvas tools that support Cognitive Presence (critical thinking and reflection), Teaching Presence (facilitating discussions, creating connections, and providing feedback and support), and Social Presence (student engagement, authentic peer interaction, shared goals, and collaboration).
