Culture and Code – Transforming Languages into Technological Performance

Culture and Code brings the Brooklyn Motion Capture Dance Ensemble to BGSU for a collaborative project exploring the intersections of technology, ethics, and cultural expression. This project will encourage BGSU students to translate their cultural backgrounds into a digital realm through physicality and motion capture technology, resulting in interdisciplinary and immersive performances. Led by Brian Ellis, a creative coder and multi-instrumentalist, the ensemble consists of Erin Landers, movement director, and Melanie Holm, dancer and soprano, and together they will lead the residency, which will broaden students’ perspectives on artistic expression by integrating dance and technology to create movement-based musical interfaces. The workshop for the technology will be held on Jan 28th 3.30 – 5.20pm at Chorale Room, and the performance will be on Jan 30th 8-9pm at Bryan Hall.

The event is supported by Ethnic Cultural Arts Program (ECAP) and BGSU College of Musical Arts. Curated by Dr. Piyawat Louilarpprasert, Assistant Professor in Composition.
