Ethnic Vocality: Contemporary and Underrepresented Voices is a curated concert that showcases a diverse selection of contemporary music, emphasizing the fusion of ethnic elements with modern vocal expressions. This concert expands the artistic expressions of underrepresented communities, with a special focus on Asian cultural identities in contemporary music. The program is led by Rome Prize-winning composer Ken Ueno and award-winning composer Chihchun Chi-sun Lee, in collaboration with pianist Eunmi Ko. They are joined by a new generation of composers, featuring BGSU Alum and the Winner of BGSU Concerto Competition, Neda Nadim, together with international composers: Jia Yi Lee, Sofia Ouyang, and Young Jun Lee. This event promotes sound studies research and fosters an appreciation for non-Western musical traditions, illustrating their significance within the global contemporary music scene.

Special thanks to all composers and external support by National Culture and Arts Foundation (NCAF) for composer, Chihchun Chi-sun Lee.

Supported by the Ethnic Cultural Arts Program (ECAP) and the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music (MACCM), BGSU College of Musical Arts, this event is curated by Dr. Piyawat Louilarpprasert, Assistant Professor of Composition.
