About this Event
Bowen-Thompson Student Union 1001 E Wooster St , Bowling Green, OH 43402
Dr. Stephannie Gearhart, an associate professor in the BGSU Department of English, will present the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Faculty Lecture at 4 p.m. on March 13 in 206 Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
Nearly 400 years ago, Ben Jonson declared that Shakespeare "was not of an age, but for all time!" What did he mean by this? And, was he correct?
In Dr. Gearhart's talk, "'Of an Age' or 'For All Time?': How We See Shakespeare Today," she will discuss how Shakespeare profoundly affected his own culture and how he continues to affect ours by addressing the playwright's key role in shaping the early modern era's ideology of intergenerational relations and the postmodern era's ideas about diverse topics such as race, class, sexual orientation, and gender politics.
The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture.
