Eclipses and Astronomical Phenomena in Art History
Andrew Hershberger, Professor
BGSU School of Art
Eclipses and varied astronomical phenomena have inspired many artists over time, including painters, sculptors, photographers, and architects. Deep connections exist between viewing eclipses and the visual arts, perhaps beginning with the camera obscura, an optical predecessor of all photographic and digital cameras. This presentation will explore related art works by both representational and abstract artists.
