Familiar Sounds: Music and Popular Culture - by Anna DeGalan

Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:30am to 11:20am

Jerome Library, 4th Floor, Jerome Library
Jerome Library, Bowling Green, OH 43403

The music in popular texts—whether a catchy television show theme or a masterful Blockbuster score—plays a critical role in moving the hearts of audiences. Such music is the context that locates a genre and the narrative tool that leads viewers through a work. Ms. DeGalan’s talk explores the contribution music makes to genre works.

Ms. DeGalan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnomusicology and Jazz Studies at BGSU in December of 2016. She is presently completing a Masters of Arts in Popular Culture and authoring a thesis entitled: An Evolution of DC Comics’ Superhero Soundtracks in Correlation to Major Historical Events in Conjunction with Changing Cultural Perceptions of Heroes.

This talk is brought to you by the BGSU Popular Culture Scholars Association.
