Overarching questions guide and shape research by helping scholars to focus their efforts and providing a systematic approach and acting as guidance throughout a study. Research questions help us identify appropriate methods, select prior literature, and ultimately inform and shape our decisions during a research project. Our teaching can benefit from adopting a similar approach. We should strive to bring our students the best, most appropriate learning experiences but also think more intentionally about broad societal concerns informing the writing classroom. In this workshop, we will discuss our expectations about digital classroom experiences using the Framework for Success in Post-Secondary Writing. We will use the framework’s “Habits of the Mind” to help us create a digitally-focused pedagogical plan. To help us develop that plan, in the same we develop systematic studies, we apply a classic user experience (UX) approach to discover the issue to address, select appropriate methods, create a solution for the problem, and evaluate our solution’s effectiveness. At the end of this workshop, teachers will have crafted a digital pedagogy plan and created a way to assess it.
