Browne Popular Culture Library (4th floor of Jerome Library)

The Center for Women and Gender Equity is teaming up with the Browne Popular Culture Library, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Popular Culture Studies and the University Activities Organization to bring you a Monstrous Women Double Feature!

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, we will be hosting a screening of the film Jennifer’s Body (2009) in the BTSU Theater Room 206 from 6 - 9 p.m. Immediately following the film, there will be a Q&A panel featuring Dr. Sarah Rainey-Smithback, Chair, Graduate Coordinator and Associate Professor in the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Professor and Chair in the Department of Popular Culture and American Culture Ph.D. candidate Judy Clemens-Smucker!

On Monday, Oct. 31, we will be screening The Wasp Woman (1959) in the Browne Popular Culture Library at 5 p.m.

Additionally, throughout the month of October an exhibit on “monstrous women” will be on display in the Pop Culture Library that explores the history of monstrous women in popular culture and folklore and the myriad definitions of “monster” as it applies to women. Students who visit the exhibit are invited to enter a raffle to win a hauntingly good gift basket, including a Hocus Pocus board game, Dead Blondes and Bad Mothers: Monstrosity, Patriarchy, and the Fear of Female Power by Sady Doyle, Cursed by Thomas Wheeler and Frank Miller, art prints of “monstrous” women in pop culture by Bryan Bove, as well as candy, stickers and more! The winner of the raffle will be announced on Halloween at The Wasp Woman screening.
