DESCRIPTION:In this flipped professional development session\, participants
  will be asked to watch the NCFDD’s webinar titled “How to Challenge R
 ace and Gender Bias in Student Evaluations” before 11:00am on December 3
 rd.  Then\, during this event\, BGSU registrants will convene remotely to 
 engage in a meaningful discussion session about the webinar\, student cour
 se evaluations\, and a wider collection of ways to communicate and assess 
 teaching effectiveness.   \n\nStudies consistently show that student evalu
 ations are biased against women faculty and faculty of color. Yet\, higher
  education institutions continue to lean heavily on students’ evaluation
 s of teaching for hiring and promotion decisions. This webinar is designed
  for faculty and administrators to better understand how student biases be
 come transformed into institutional inequalities based on race and gender.
  The webinar provides administrators and faculty in leadership positions w
 ith a range of potential solutions for eliminating or minimizing the negat
 ive impacts of biased student evaluations. Recognizing that institutional 
 change takes time\, however\, the webinar also provides strategies for emp
 owering women faculty and faculty of color on how to advocate for themselv
 es\, particularly in situations where they are not being fully supported.\
