BGSU Safe Zone
The Safe Zone Project at Bowling Green State University promotes awareness of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) people. The 3 hour workshop provides education concerning LGBTQ+ issues and seeks to improve the environment for LGBTQ+ people. The project's main goal is to build a support network of allies for BGSU LGBTQ+ Community.
Safe Zone Goals
- To increase awareness of LGBTQ+ people and issues.
- To build a visible support network of LGBTQ+ allies on BGSU's campus.
- To improve the climate for LGBTQ+ people at BGSU.
- To make allies visible to and involved with LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff.
About Safe Zone
Since homophobia and limited understanding negatively impact LGBTQ+ individuals, efforts to make the LGBTQ+ population feel welcome in any environment are needed. The Safe Zone project identifies a growing network of students, faculty, staff, and community members who are willing and prepared to provide support and information to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning people.
The Safe Zone project launched into a full campaign in fall 2012. We are able to offer the Safe Zone workshop to every department, student group, or program on campus that we can.
