Workshop Description & Learning Outcomes: 

Joining the scholarly conversation in your field can be intimidating. Where should I submit my article manuscript? Are some journals better than others? What about the emails I get from random journals asking me to submit my work? Using library databases such as Journal Citation Reports and Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, facilitators will demonstrate how to find and evaluate scholarly journals in your field and discuss the indicators of predatory publishing practices. 

After participating in this session, participants will be able to:  

• Use library databases and online resources to identify scholarly journals in their field(s)  
• Identify the red flags of predatory publishing practices  

• Evaluate scholarly journals based on various identifiers, such as impact factors and journal citation indicators 

Please note: This workshop is a part of the Research Ready Workshop Series offered in collaboration with University Libraries. These workshops have been designed for BGSU graduate students engaged in research and scholarship; however, all BGSU faculty, instructors, and staff are welcome to participate.
