Claudia Aizaga – flute
Ecuadorian flutist, Claudia Daniela Aizaga Chávez holds degrees from Universi- ty of Northern Iowa and Louisiana State University. She has won prizes in vari- ous competitions including “Música Maestro” in Ecuador and the LSU Concerto Competition, and has served as a flute teacher through “El Sistema” at the FOSJE foundation in Ecuador for the last seven years. She is in her first year of DMA studies with Tim Munro.
Sandra Coursey – piano
Sandra Coursey received degrees in Piano Pedagogy and Piano Performance from BGSU and Oklahoma City University. Most recently, she performed with the Diverge Trio in Mississippi Women’s University’s Women in Music Festival. She is in her first year of DMA studies with Solungga Liu.
Shelly Du – harp
Shelly Du has served as principal second harpist of the Oklahoma City Philhar- monic and as acting principal harpist of the Sarasota Orchestra (FL). A winner of the American Harp Society Anne Adams Awards, she holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She is in her second year of DMA studies with Julie Buzzelli.
Humay Gasimzadeh – piano
Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, Humay Gasimzadeh is a winner of the Chamber Music Competition at Stavanger University in Norway, Conrad Art Song Competition at BGSU, and Cortona Contemporary Performance Competition in Italy. She is in her third year of DMA studies with Robert Satterlee.
Pablo Gomez-Estévez – composition
Pablo Gómez-Estévez is a composer and pianist from Santiago, Dominican Re- public. He received a Master’s in Composition from BGSU and a BA from Luther College. His music combines elements from Caribbean genres infused with jazz harmonies and contemporary composition techniques. He is in his first year of DMA studies with Christopher Dietz.
Adam Har-zvi – composition
Adam Har-zvi is a composer and double bassist from northern New Jersey. His pieces have been performed by The Toledo Symphony, The Wind Ensemble Society of New York City, The 21st Century Consort, and the Mivos Quartet. He holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute, UMass Amherst, and BGSU. He is in his first year of DMA studies with Marilyn Shrude.
Joshua Heaney – saxophone
A prizewinning saxophonist, Joshua Heaney has soloed with the Atlanta Cham- ber Collective, Atlanta Wind Project, and the Georgia State University Wind Ensemble. He has premiered over 35 new works and was a featured performer on Atlanta’s SoundNOW festival and WABE’s Atlanta Music Scene. In addition to his duties at BGSU, he currently teaches saxophone, clarinet, and chamber music at Heidelberg University. He holds degrees from Susquehanna University and Georgia State University, and is in his second year of DMA studies with John Sampen.
Anat Kardontchik – violin
Anat Kardontchik has won prizes in competitions such as the Young Musicians Competition with the Peninsula Symphony, MTNA Young Artist Award and Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artist Award. She has served twice as concert- master of the National Festival Orchestra in Carnegie Hall. She holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Duquesne University. She is in her fourth year of DMA studies with Penny Kruse.
Ariel Magno da Costa – piano
Brazilian pianist Ariel Magno da Costa holds degrees from Central Michigan University and the State University of Campinas, Brazil. His research focuses on the music for solo piano by Basque-Spanish composer Gabriel Erkoreka (b. 1969). He has participated in the 14th and 15th editions of soundSCAPE Festival (Cesena, Italy), Bowling Green New Music Festival 38, 39, 40 and 41, Society of Composers 2018 National Conference (Tacoma, WA), and the 2017 IDRS Annual Conference (Appleton, WI). He is in his fourth year of DMA studies with Laura Melton.
David Munro – oboe
David Munro is an oboist with a dedication to and passion for performing 20th and 21st century contemporary, avant-garde, and electroacoustic music. He re- ceived degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and BGSU, and is in his first year of DMA studies with Nermis Mieses.
Jonathan Oliveira – piano
Jonathan de Oliveira holds degrees from the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil. A prizewinner in both the Concurso “Jovens Talentos da EMAC” and the Con- curso Nacional de Piano “Orestes Farinello,” he has commissioned new works for piano based on his pedagogical research. He is in his fourth year of DMA studies with Solungga Liu.
Katherine Pracht Phares – mezzo-soprano
Ms. Pracht Phares’ 2019 season included stage debuts as Charlotte in A Little Night Music (Madison Opera), Ottavia in L’incoronazione di Poppea (Florentine Opera), and Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges (Opera Philadelphia). 2021 engagements include the world premiere of Joseph Summer’s Hamlet (Ruse, Bul- garia), and the title role in Kevin Puts’ opera, Elizabeth Cree (West Edge Opera). She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and the University of Iowa, and is in her first year of DMA studies with Jane Rodgers.
Hila Zamir – clarinet
A native of Israel, clarinetist Hila Zamir is a versatile performer of classical and contemporary music. Performance credits include solo concerts at MerkinHall and Walt Whitman Theater in NY, Alte Oper Hall in Germany and Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Israel. In 2014, she performed as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta. She is in her fourth year of DMA studies with Kevin Schempf.
