The Social Justice Institute (SJI) is a day-long institute that aims to contribute to the Division's central mission to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all populations at BGSU. The SJI will give students the opportunity to focus on their own learning and development to increase their social justice competencies as change agents.
By participating in the Social Justice Institute, BGSU students will be able to:
Explain definitions and terms related to social justice including: privilege, oppression, identity, power, and various –isms
Evaluate the implications of their own membership within dominant social identity groups in the context of dominant and subordinate group dynamics
Analyze the dynamics of oppression at the individual, group, cultural, and systemic level
Describe salient issues of injustice and marginalization that currently exist at BGSU
Formulate strategies to promote personal growth and interventions for the BGSU campus community
