This panel is intended to help English graduate students who are unsure about whether they would like to apply to a PhD program and to assist those who are beginning the application process.

The session will consist of three current PhD students and three BGSU faculty, all with various degrees and interests, answering questions such as:

  • Why did you decide to pursue a PhD? How has this reason changed since you have been in your PhD program?

  • How did you begin looking at PhD programs? Were there tools online? Googling?

  • What types of PhD programs did you look on based on your previous degrees?

  • What were some of the attributes that you were looking for from a PhD program? Teaching and research opportunities? Location?

These questions will be followed by a Q&A session.
