Description & Learning Outcomes:
The Safe Zone Project at Bowling Green State University promotes awareness of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) individuals. Its goals are to increase awareness of LGBTQ+ people and issues, create gender-inclusive change on campus and in society, and form an understanding of the impact of intersectionality on identities and systems. The project aims to improve the climate for LGBTQ+ individuals at BGSU and make allies visible and involved with LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff.
In this session, you will:
Clarify your understanding of basic/intermediate LGBTQ+-related definitions.
Develop and/or advance your understanding of socialization.
Clarify your understanding of gender identity, gender expression, sex assigned at birth, and various orientations.
Learn about US LGBTQ+ policies/law, specifically in the state of Ohio.
Identify job-relevant behaviors and techniques rooted in allyship.
Develop an action plan.

Join us for an insightful conversation on the critical topic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Activism with Trisha Bonham, a PhD candidate and graduate teaching assistant from the School of Critical and Cultural Studies. This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with an academic leader and learn more about perspectives of Indigenous women and feminist movements that you may not have heard about before.

Day of Dialogue is an annual opportunity for BGSU to discuss our responsibility as a public university for the public good.

Come help the campus community kick off Latino/a/x Heritage Month this Friday, Sept. 13 with a FREE salsa dance lesson from Latin Dance Toledo from 7-8 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Lenhart Grand Ballroom and stay for live music by Dayton Salsa Project from 8-10 p.m..

The Lavender Graduate Celebration is our annual recognition ceremony honoring LGBTQIA+ students who are graduating seniors. The program provides a space for LGBTQIA+ identifying graduates to celebrate their time at BGSU and recognize members within their community who have made their experience memorable. We also honor the recipients of the LGBTQ+ Excellence Awards and celebrate the achievements of the past year.
Register at www.bgsu.edu/OMA2024grads to participate in one or more of these celebrations no later than April 5th, 2024. ***Students who anticipate graduating in any of the 2024 BGSU Commencements should participate in the April 2024 ceremonies (including August and December graduating students).
