FREE Martial Arts Classes

Student Recreation Center, Martial Arts Studio - Classroom #38

Learn taijutsu, a traditional Japanese martial art focused on self-awareness and natural body movement for self-defense. Taijutsu involves unarmed techniques for striking, kicking, blocking, grappling and throwing, traditional weapon techniques, and methods of evasion and escape from dangerous situations.  Who can attend? Open to BGSU students, faculty and staff  All ability levels are welcome Why you should attend Classes are conducted in a supportive environment through which participants can improve their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. How to attend Drop in to join this 6-7:30 p.m. class on Tuesdays between August 26 - December 9. (No class on October 7 or November 11) Class is hosted in the Martial Arts Studio (#38) in the sub-basement at the Student Rec Center Advance registration is not required. Wear comfortable clothing.  About the instructor Instructed by BGSU Chief Well-Being Officer, Ben Batey. Ben is a licensed instructor with over 20 years of experience in the art of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and currently holds the rank of 6th degree black belt. Learn How to Study, Balance and Thrive Join us for a hands-on workshop designed to help college students strengthen their study habits, organization and well-being. Facilitated by occupational therapy doctoral students with support from licensed occupational therapists, this event offers practical strategies to help you succeed both in and out of the classroom. Interactive Group Sessions Drop in for all or part of the event and participate in 20-minute breakout sessions focused on real-life student success skills. Each group is designed to be inclusive of neurodiverse learning needs and provide take-home tools to immediately improve your daily routine. What You’ll Learn Organization Skills: Learn how to better manage your space, to-do list and time as you head into the second half of the semester. Technology Tools: Discover study aids, writing tools and tech tips to help you stay focused and productive. Well-being Workshops: Explore mindfulness, stress management and exercises to support your physical and mental health. Why Attend You’ll leave with actionable strategies to stay balanced, focused, and organized, skills that will help you thrive throughout college and beyond. Whether you attend one session or all, you’ll gain insight from experts in occupational therapy and connect with peers who share similar goals for success. Stop by for relaxing activities and grab wellness resources. It’s a perfect way to pause, breathe and feel grounded. For the week of Oct. 27, the welless wednesday activity is painting!  No sign-up needed—just drop in to Kreischer Hall on Wednesday and give yourself a well-deserved wellness boost. 💚 Collectable Pins✨ Kreischer events will feature collectible pins! Recurring events will take place every evening (except Fridays) from 6–8 p.m. in the Kreischer Sundial (Freddie/Frieda Rooms) throughout the fall semester. Attend all six events to collect all six pins and decorate your room with Falcon flair.
