Sat, Oct 19, 2024 6am to 10pm

Doyt-Perry Stadium

The BGSU and UT chapters of the Student Veterans of America are hosting the second year of our Ruck-the-Ball event. Students, faculty, and community members will be rucking from Doyt-Perry Stadium in Bowling Green to the Glass Bowl Stadium in Toledo while carrying the game ball for the Battle of I-75 football game between BGSU and UT. The column will hike along a 22 mile route, with the intention of bringing attention to the average of 22 veterans who take their lives each day. The phrase "22 a day" is a well known phrase within the veteran community. This event serves as a reminder to all who participate of the veteran suicide epidemic. This ruck march is open to anyone from either UT's or BGSU's chapter, university, or community. Participants are encouraged to hike as long as they can, but there is no requirement to complete all 22 miles. There will be a number of members from each chapter who will be completing the entire ruck march.  RSVP link - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2nd-annual-battle-of-i-75-ruck-the-ball-tickets-956483085657?aff=ebdssbdestsearch Learn more at http://bgsu.presence.io/event/2024-battle-of-i-75-ruck-the-ball

Dashain Tika

Sat, Oct 12, 2024 3pm to 7pm

Univrsity Hall 307

Dashain is one of the biggest festivals in Nepal. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The festival spans 15 days, with the main celebration on the 10th day, called "Vijaya Dashami," on October 12 this year. On Vijaya Dashami, the elder persons offer Tika on the foreheads of younger family members as a blessing for prosperity, health, and good fortune. Along with Tika, elders give "Jamara" (barley sprouts) and blessings. Receiving Tika from elders is a moment of familial bonding, gratitude, and respect, representing a connection with ancestral heritage. Applying Tika also signifies the passing on of wisdom and protection to the younger generations. So here in Bowling Green, away from home and family, the Nepal Students' Association (NSA) is the family for all the Nepalese Students in Bowling Green State University. The eldest member of the NSA community will offer "tika and blessings " to all the younger students in the  NSA community.  Learn more at http://bgsu.presence.io/event/dashain-tika
