Hands-On with Sage Skills: Exploring Digital Resources for Academic and Workplace Success

In this interactive session, you’ll dive into the Sage Skills Business and Student Success portals—digital resources designed to help students build the workplace and academic skills they need to succeed at the university and beyond. After a guided overview of the resources, you’ll explore module content on your own, then come together to share your impressions with the group. Finally, we’ll collaborate to brainstorm practical ways these resources could be used in your courses, programs, or co-curricular activities at BGSU.  Why you should attend: Explain the features and purpose of the Sage Skills Business and Student Success portals.  Evaluate the usefulness of learning modules for the courses you teach or your work with students outside of the classroom.  Describe a scenario in which you could apply module content in your work at BGSU.   Identify potential campus-wide curricular and co-curricular uses for the Sage Skills interactive digital resources.  To register for this event, use the Fall 2025 University Libraries CFE Session Registration Form.  Advance registration is required. Cultivating AI Literacy: Classroom Innovations from a CFE Community of Practice

In this session, you'll explore innovative classroom materials designed to enhance student AI literacy—developed by a CFE Community of Practice. Six faculty members will share practical frameworks that address key dimensions of AI learning: how generative AI works, how to craft effective prompts, how to recognize bias, how to navigate ethical questions, and how to maintain essential human oversight. You’ll engage directly with each presenter’s materials through guided discussion and hands-on activities, leaving with adaptable resources and concrete strategies you can implement right away. Discover ways to integrate AI literacy into your courses while fostering critical thinking about emerging technologies.  Why you should attend: Identify key dimensions of AI literacy relevant to your discipline.  Incorporate AI literacy concepts into your course materials using cross-disciplinary examples.  Apply strategies to promote critical thinking about emerging technologies.  To register for this event, use the Fall 2025 Campus Partner CFE Session Registration Form.  Advance registration is required. Explore Toledo’s Big Dreams and Bigger Lessons In the 19th century, Toledo inspired its pioneers with bold visions of greatness. None was bolder than Jessup Scott, who predicted that Toledo would become the “future great city of the world.” But the reality was more complicated. About the Speaker and Award Historian Dr. Timothy Messer-Kruse, School of Cultural and Critical Studies, Bowling Green State University, will explore Toledo’s early years, the soaring hopes of its boosters and the speculation that shaped its destiny. Messer-Kruse’s work on this topic won the Local History Publication Award, Article Category, Professional Division, leading to this special lecture. Navigating the Publishing Landscape: Evaluating and Selecting a Journal for Publication

Joining the scholarly conversation in your field can be intimidating. Where should you submit your article manuscript? Are some journals better than others? What about the emails you get from random journals asking you to submit your work? This session will explore how to use library databases such as Journal Citation Reports and Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory to find and evaluate scholarly journals in your field and how to identify potentially deceptive publishing practices. Why You Should Attend: Use library databases and online resources to identify scholarly journals in your field(s). Identify the red flags of deceptive publishing practices.  Evaluate scholarly journals based on various identifiers, such as impact factors and journal citation indicators.  To register for this event, use the Fall 2025 University Libraries CFE Session Registration Form.  Advance registration is required. Leveling Up Your Literature Review: An Introduction to Systematic Reviews

You’re probably familiar with traditional literature reviews—gathering and synthesizing what’s been written on a topic—but did you know there are different types, each with its own purpose and method? This session focuses on systematic literature reviews, a structured, transparent approach to reviewing research. During this session, you’ll learn about systematic literature review types, focusing on systematic and systematized reviews, and learn the differences between them and other review types. You will explore established guidelines and best practices for conducting systematic reviews and realistic timelines for these projects. You will also be connected to support and resources to help you with each step of the process.   Why you should attend: Recognize the differences between systematic and systematized review types. Identify best practices and steps involved in completing a systematic review. Consider next steps for adapting a systematized review for publication. Establish a realistic timeline for conducting a systematic review. Locate a published review in your field. A History of Hazing at BGSU, 1920-1955

Examine Hazing’s Hidden History Hazing has long been part of American university culture, yet it is rarely mentioned in histories of higher education. Historian Dr. Rebecca Mancuso, Department of History, Bowling Green State University, explores hazing’s complex legacy in her talk, “And Everybody Had a Good Time”?: A History of Hazing at Bowling Green State University, 1920–1955. About the Award Mancuso’s article on this subject earned the Local History Publication Award, Article Category, Professional Division, recognizing her work as a significant contribution to regional scholarship.
