The April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse will stretch across North America, with the path of totality crossing Mexico, the USA, and Canada. Eclipse-watching has a rich cultural and scientific history that stretches back thousands of years to many pre-contact North American cultures and continues to inspire imaginations to the present day.   Join us for an evening of discussion with scholars from archaeology, astronomy, and the history of science about the many ways people experience the night sky – past and present.    This symposium is presented by the Department of History and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Bowling Green State University, with support from the Reddin Fund for Canadian Studies.    Speakers & Special Guests:  Mr. Colin Bird, Consul General of Canada in Detroit, United States Dr. Kate Dellenbusch, Lecturer, Bowling Green State University Department of Physics and Astronomy and Director of the BGSU Planetarium   Mr. Frank Dempsey, Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Toronto Centre and Member of Dokis First Nation Dr. Rebecca Mancuso, Associate Professor of History at Bowling Green State University and Director of the Canadian Studies Program Dr. Sarah Reynolds, Assistant Professor, University of Indianapolis Department of Physics and Earth-Space Science  Mr. Randall Rosenfeld, Archivist, Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and Director of the Dorner Telescope Museum  This program is made possible, in part, by Ohio Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Ohio Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
